On October 21, 2007 seven Jesuits formed a new community in Munich. The community is located in the neighborhood of Sendling at the local parish St. Corbinian. The community is part of the European Formation Centre Munich and is composed mainly of scholastics, who receive academic and spiritual formation. Our community is named after the Chilean Jesuit Alberto Hurtado, who was declared saint in 2005 by Pope Benedict XVI. St. Alberto serves as a model for our community because of his ability to unite and balance academic, social and pastoral commitments. The focus points of the community are studies and formation, since the scholastics study at the Jesuit Faculty of Philosophy (Hochschule für Philosophie) and the superior of the house teaches and is involved in research there. Community members are also working for example, with Jesuit Refugee Service, in psycho-analytic counseling, and in other pastoral engagements.
Apart from these main activities, we would also like to engage in the many possibilities that are available to us at St. Corbinian. The Jesuit community for example organizes a Sunday evening mass at the parish church. We are also looking forward to our participation in the area of Interreligious Dialogue, in conjunction with the present discussion surrounding the building of a mosque directly across from St. Corbinian’s.
